On May 26th, my friends Rex and Keith invited me to the LSU annual Crawfish Boil, held in the ball field by Qualcomm stadium. It was an orgiastic feast of crawfish (wee freshwater lobsters) potatos and corn on the cob. Hundeds of people ate and drank all afternoon until we were full. It was a communal eating. The other diners at our table worked at the local newspaper, The San Diego Union Tribune. I learned a new way to bring people intimately together: to tear apart the ectoskeletons of the poor creatures, remove their innards and suck their heads. That's a special kind of intimacy.
